I just downloaded a fresh version of the Precise Beta 2 ISO and re-
installed on my problem machine. I did the same dist-upgrade that I did
yesterday and all is well. No issues with update-initramfs.

Agree with James that this looks like an installer issue. On my fresh
install everything was OK. It was only when I triggered an update that
introduced a new kernel that the problem with update-initramfs became
apparent.

- Close Gimp
- Click on the icon to re-launch

behaviour. I've just tried this on Precise Beta and it's still a problem
but I'm going to remove Gimp fom this report and raise a new bug (unless

Just got round to upgrading to Oneiric and can confirm that the problem
still exists with the latest driver. Reverted back to 173 for the time
being.
If anyone gets the white window when trying to revert, type in your
password and guess where the right-hand dialog button is. ;)

that are snapped to the extreme right of the workspace grid, i.e.
workspaces top-right and bottom-right in a 2x2 grid. Following on from

OK, I have a better pattern of failure now:
I lose launcher and panel in these cases:
1. Hit Super to open the Dash and escape to cancel
2. Hit Super to open the Dash and click on an active window without entering
text
3. Hit Super to open the Dash and run an application that opens full-screen
Logged out and back in. All I started was a terminal to follow the
output of .xsession-errors.
I then hit the Super key to bring up the dash (had to hit it twice) and
launched Audacity. Launcher and top panel/global menu disappeared when
Audacity window appeared. No window decoration on Audacity w

Have the same problem running Synaptic. Consistently crashing the
desktop.
I've just noticed that it may not be a crash and more of a repainting
issue. If I hit Super-S a few times the launcher and top "panel" come
back again.

Following updates today (9th April 2011), any attempt to open Audacity
in Unity-2D causes the desktop environment to crash, leaving just the
Audacity window visible with no borders. I've tried with global menus
enabled and disabled in audacity.de
Same problem for me this time running Synaptic and trying to do
something else at the same time, i.e. open an application from
Applications Places. Unity 2D on a fresh install of 11.04 beta has been
otherwise flawless for me.

crashes. For example, trying to disable the Place Windows plugin or the
Desktop Wall. Or trying to enable Ring Switcher, etc. I've not checked

launcher are blacked out and a group of icons about two-thirds of the
way down have a lighter background. Windows are not generally affected,
despite the appearance of the screenshot.

click and select "Keep in Launcher". Application name is shown as "java-
lang-Thread". Close Netbeans and try to re-launch from the launcher. The
icon pulses for a few seconds
Sufficiently similar to my case that I suspect it's the same problem. I
have Banshee open and was changing the volume using the "panel" applet
when Compiz crashed. Lost all my window title bars but everything else
carried on OK, including the Unity Launcher.
