An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.
This was likely caused by:
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.
I see this is expired but I am running into this scenario again and the
steps to reproduce and fix this seem to be simple so I'm posting it here
because backlinks lead me here. This can occur in many Ubuntu versions
and it's essentially user error.

If I have to format the computer I would like to have a boot disk so I do not

a slider for "on" (tracking and recording of activity), "local only"
(only zeitgeist and no info sent over the network) and "no recording"
(all recording of activity switched off) (whatever the terminology will
be in the end)

THe crash is triggered whenever I accept a new appointment.

I get exactly the same behaviour once I have run a VM. After a reboor I
can record to hearts content, as soon as I fire up a VM I get the same
error.
Interestingly, if I try and record with FFMP, either on the host or in
the VM I get an identical error.

me. acpi=off booted with full RAM but caused other hassles. No boot
flags caused a reboot loop.
There is a bios update as of April 2010 for the R509 that solved my

When I upgraded to Karmic (clean install) I noticed bash echoes control
characters using the hat notation (ex. ctrl+c shows as ^C). stty
reported echoctl being set, so I tried to unset it. This helped, and
pressing ctrl+c at a prompt cancel

I have been haveing this problem for a while now. Movie Player just sits there
like it doesn't know what to do with the mp3's. Before a few updates we had it
was working fine.

I have installed flock browser (www.flock.com) via a tarball. It is
mozilla based, and it does exactly the same thing as FF.
One thing I must note though is that FF does not freeze in my case, I
can use it, but it does not connect to any web pages.

I have the same problem.
In the bottom status bar it will say connecting to... and hang there for
a long time. I have checked and there is nothing going out through the
network interface. FF error panel lists nothing out of the ordinary.

I can confirm - Also using nVidia 8800gts and same halo, also features
around the top and bottom panels. It seems like the shadow effects that
are rendered in Compiz are rendered in photo negative.
Funny it is listed as a bug, I quite liked the effect and was rather
distraught when it disappeared.
Then explain how the report is invalid.
