It doesn't seem that the CPU is doing the graphic processing (unless the
algorithm is very efficient - the visual effects doesn't seem to cause
increased CPU use on my host machine).
This problem does not exist when I have turned compiz off.

Instead of changing grub.cfg, what I've done on my computer was to
change /etc/grub.d/10_linux (the source file when generating the
grub.cfg):

My rig was a XP64 - x86_64 dual boot. I was able to restore my XP64
partition with SuperGrub, but the linux partition table entry was
trashed. Is there a way to back up the partition table to experiment?
I don't think the data is destroyed, just "lost."

I confirm this bug on a fresh install of 8.04 x86_64. twice yesterday i
installed Hardy from the text-based install disk.
