I was trying to rotate jpeg files. However, I am currently unable to reproduce

Meanwhile, I had a hardware upgrade (CPU, mainboard, RAM, graphics card), so
maybe it was a hardware-induced issue.
It is also possible, that some other ubuntu component's (mime database, etc.)

I found the error: the exclude code tries to lstat the file, which throws an
exception that is not caught.
I modified the source to catch that exception, and now it seems to work well.
I included a full patch for the 1.3 upstream source, with changelog
entry and a sub-minor version change.

Upon investigating further, it seems that the problem is caused by unreadable
files. I think this because after copying a sub-directory tree in /home (which
induced the error) except for one unreadable file (.gvfs), the copy didn't
produce the error any more.
It would be good to catch the point

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gthumb
This always happens, whether using the rotate button on the toolbar, or using
the rotate dialog from the menu.
My only clue is that gthumb emits the following lines when I press the rotate
button (that's the output of _one_ rotate command):
I can also confirm this.
I checked with 'xev', that X keyboard events are correctly generated due to
keystokes, but are completely ignored by Metacity.
After killing metacity (it restarted automatically, of course), hotkeys are
working fine again.
I'm also attaching my .xsession-errors file.
