Maybe 'sudo lsusb -v' is more interesting? It gives a different output.
And yes, I plugged it in before running lsusb. The scanner gets its
power from the USB port, there is no seperate power cable.

I have tried booting from the Herd 2 cd with the same machine.
The following issue from my original bug report is solved: "the menu
where you can choose whether to install or do something else did not
seem to react". With Herd 2, this menu works without any problems.

Radeon mobility 7500, 'ati' driver, Edgy) did not freeze for five days.
