When upgrading from alsa-utils 1.2.2-1ubuntu1 to alsa-utils
1.2.2-1ubuntu2 with speakers plugged in the 3.5mm jack, I could clearly
hear a "thump" sound when the 3.5mm jack stopped working. Neither a
reboot or a cold boot solved it.

While generating the logs I found out that maybe it's not alsa-utils

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem after running fsck on
/dev/sda5.
I'm attaching an excerpt from my syslog which includes the errors I was
getting (I guess they didn't show up in the logs sent by apport).

the video driver that's causing the problem. Sometimes it gets so bad, I

did a clean install of 11.10 from 10.04. several icons were duplicated
in the launcher. specifically the libreoffice apps and firefox, plus
icons of f-spot and other programs from 10.04 were carried over. i don't
use f-spot and have it uninstalled.

hi,
completed a 5 hour upgrade to 11.10 from 11.04, major issues followed.
some of the buttons in the sidebar have no images, the image is of a white
window.
the power button on the right hand top corner of the desktop is not showing
logout and shutdown.
the files and fold
I have same problem on my IBM/Lenovo C100 laptop.
sudo shutdown now would close down ubuntu but will hang and not shut down the
laptop.

everytime when i right click an icon to access the submenu (e.g. safely
remove usb drive, delete app from launcher), the launcher freezes when
the submenu appears. i have to wait awhile for it to unfreeze, press esc
to clear the subme

i lost the top bar of windows (the one that contains the minimize,
maximize, and shutdown buttons).
i issued "metacity --replace" and "sudo metacity --replace"
the terminal hung and after an hour or so, i received the following
message:
Window manager warning: Buggy client
okay guys. they're not going to look at the case or do anything if you keep
adding to a bug that was marked as fixed.

latest updates doesn't seem to solve the problem.
compiz/metacity can be enabled now. however, the transparency aspect doesn't
work. i'm using cairo-dock.
i have completely removed cairo-dock and reinstalled, and transparency still
