I appreciate the effort to help with upgrading from 16.04 to 18.04 --
not real clear understanding how to install desktop package and how that would
impact holding broken packages. In the 60 days that have elapsed since posting
my problem, I've continued to install 16.04 updates when directed to
After my most recent Ubuntu 16.04 LTS update (that required both an
authorization password request and a post-installation reboot) the
following message appears briefly in a small window in the top right
corner of the screen after I sign into Ubuntu:
"Applications can no longer access your [@ATT.n
** Description changed:
IN start UBUNTU
Application can no longer access your dumetz1...@gmail.com Online
- Account. Choose online Accounts from the user menu to reinstale access
+ Account. Choose online Accounts from the user menu to reinstate access
to this account.

Public bug reported:
On impulse, after updating Ubuntu this morning I selected an option
offering an upgrade from 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS. I had not prepared for
the upgrade. I wouldn't be surprised if much more of my involvement is
required.
