Thanks for following up. I've since upgraded to 7.10.
This specific problem hasn't recurred, but I have had intermittent
stability problems similar to what was reported (though none as serious)
- in the most recent problem, I booted the machine and logged in while
the monitor was turned off. After
Sound problems were the result sound becoming unexpectedly muted (fixing
the hard stuff is quick - it's the easy stuff that takes a while).
Not sure if the sound problem was related to gnome going down or not.
