Looks like this is related to the Power Management Daemon. When the daemon is
deactivated in session properties and thus not loaded during login, the bug
occurs. When I enable it in session properties, rest
top doesn't show anything special - just some typical idle activity. nothing is
written to .xsession-errors during the failed logout attempt. I have also
verified that the bug is not related to compiz.

menu my hardy amd64 system often freezes. That means that I cannot click on
anything anymore - the logout window does not appear. The system monitor applet
still shows activity when that happens.
I can now boot into hardy without manual tweaking of the boot line. Although
this bug report is not about the possibility to boot but about messages not
shown, I still set it to fix released because I don't know and can't test any
other missing kernel messages.

Why that? A video that can be watched in totem without problems, is not shown
when totem-mozilla tries to open it. So, totem-mozilla should either not care
about .ogg files at all and hand those links to firefox (which will
automatically suggest to play the file in totem and everything is fine)

On hardy, my X server regularly freezes. At that point I can still move the
mouse cursor but the computer does not respond to any keyboard or mouse inputs
anymore. Logging into that machine from another computer via ssh is possible.

the file /usr/local/Brother/inf/brMFC210Crc had the following permissions
(probably changed during the upgrade to gutsy)
