Noting here that the fix for 1936708 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hirsute/+source/linux/+bug/1936708) also resolves this problem for me. (Granted, that seems to be in the works only for 5.11.x on Hirsute, and not 5.8.x on Focal, but I figure it's worth flagging for others affected.) Not sure

Slightly off-topic, but hopefully related enough: I've been affected by [freedesktop #3569][0], which also is related to older eDP panels and which started with the 5.11.0-22 as in the original report here. (Instead of "wobbly" graphics, I simply get no graphics whatsoever.) Happy to report that

I have the same issue with an HP EliteBook 840 G5, using an Intel Core i5-8250U (Intel UHD Graphics 620) and an AMD Radeon RX 540. Under a clean Focal install (20.04.2), I can successfully boot and use my machine under kernel 5.8.0-55, but I get the blank screen described by other commenters under
