I've got the same problem here on an Acer Aspire 1353XC Laptop with
Beta1, but the Live CD (well, on a USB stick) installer worked OK aside
from corrupted graphics during the bootsplash. So what is the
difference between the Live CD boot and the normal install boot, that
means the Live CD works OK
Yeah, that fixes it. I tested with both the version of libwebkit from
your PPA and the updated one in the Ubuntu repositories and the install
worked with both.

I first swapped the hard drive in my previously mentioned laptop for a
spare and tried various partition arrangements and it always crashed at
the same point. Then I put the original drive into a USB enclosure

Ok. The second line of /bin/partman-commit is "set -e", so I presume you
mean I change it to "set -e -x"? I did that and am attaching the
requested logs.
