I made a script to find an process files in a USB connected camera. A key part
of it is "find -name *.JPG", where $me contains the numeric user id. My user
is created as an admin user by the user created during OS install.

The same problem. Removing Cairo-Dock solves the problem and VLC starts
working.
There is a similar bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/cairo-dock-
core/+bug/416294) and its is/will be solved in new Ubuntu version.

Well, in my case I think it is not upon the .pdf file. For example, the
User-Guide of OpenVZ project on their webpage
(http://wiki.openvz.org/Main_Page) has these problems. All the .pdf-
files I read have the bad-smoothing.

I had the same problem: sound works only in one sound-required program,
and collapse when I need sound in the other one.
Now I have sound in all programs I need.
