Hi, yes you can do so but the next update from the system is going to delete your working installation. Therefore remove the check for updating the libsane file in synaptic every time. I use the working version libsane 1.0.19-23ubuntu7 instead of the newest suggested version libsane 1.0.20-4ubuntu
