With kernel 3.0.0-19, my system occasionally locks up completely (has happened
3 or 4 times now, always while I was using Chrome).
Since that kernel version was release to fix another bug (#972821 ), I suspect
that the bug fix is incomplete.

It looks like there are a couple of problems at work here - at least one
is the mentioned race condition which should be tracked down and fixed.
Others seem to be more difficult to diagnose.

I can confirm Mark Fraser's observation: 0.5.2-4 fixes the problem, so
it should be used instead of the non-working 0.5.2-0 version.
