I am having this same problem with Xubuntu 20.04 kernel 5.4.0-60-generic
As soon as I plug in the wifi adapter, all terminal commands hang, no
programs open, and shutdown hangs.

Thanks for coming back. I switched to Debian as I didn't have problems there
(squeeze). I tried twice to upgrade to a newer version of libdrm and
linux-2.6.37 and always got the error after a few hours of work.
But I will soon reboot into Kubuntu, run a safe-upgrade, reboot again and test

Yesterday I did a clean install of maverick (Kubuntu) Beta-1. Worked several
hours.
Today after about 4 hours 30 min X freezes completly.
I had the same bug on Debian Unstable (never reported). On Debian
