I had a similar problem with Kubuntu 12.10. Someone suggested it was a
problem with the KDE Dialogs and ibus.
I turned off the KDE dialogs in LibreOffice options and no more
crash...but I think it could be related to something interacting with
the KDE dialogs (like ibus?).
Anyway, the LibreOffice
It's working now on my Toshiba Portege M400 with the latest Ubuntu

Top area of screen black when rotating screen

Andreas,
Wish I could say the same...I'm still seeing a slow but steady creep in
memory on the Compiz process, and opening and closing Dash (with the
Super key, pressed repeatedly) shows a regular climb of about 0.5mb per
open/close. This is on a relatively new computer (Phenom Quad, 4GB Ram)

Was this patch ever applied? I'm seeing the same problem with Ubuntu
11.04, 64-bit, and the latest Evolution. The "evolution-rss" is listed
as 0.2.2-0ubuntu1. It's causing the same problem. If I remove this
package, inline pictures work again.

I have the same problem on a Toshiba Portege M400. Same version of Natty
(i386), same graphics (Intel 945). My screen resolution is 1400x1050. If
I toggle it down to 1024x768, it rotates okay. But if I leave it at the
native resolution, I get the black bar at the top of the screen.

I also saw a rapid rise in memory usage with compiz on an update from
10.10 to 11.04 on two different machines (both with Nvidia 8400GS).
So I tried a fresh, clean install on one of these computers. It seemed
fine for the first day, but the next day compiz was at 2GB memory usage.

This morning, I encountered the exact same error and consequences as
posted above while trying to install the Sun Java runtime and plugin.
I'm using the 9.10 beta, i386 version. I just noticed that I
accidentally have Firefox 3.0 installed as well as 3.5. I'm not sure if
that could have affected it
I just noticed this behaviour of vino-server on a netbook (Acer
AspireOne) running Jaunty. It did not occur before. I tried a restart
and the CPU usage still went up after restart (to about 60%). Running
top from terminal showed vino-server near the top of the list. Ran a
killall on it and CPU went
You are correct...I just tried it and it works now. Must have been a
temporary glitch in my system...perhaps I should have restarted and
tried again.

I have a simple spreadsheet that I use to track my home-based business.
It has a date field in the first column on the left, and since the sheet
is only for the current year, I've chosen to format the field as "Jan

One more note: I was able to get rid of the excessive cache ram by
issuing the following commands from terminal:
sudo su
echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
That doesn't solve the problem, but at least keeps the system going a

I just noticed a similar problem. I just upgraded this computer (2 gb
RAM) to Jaunty last night (but I installed Ubuntu, not Kubuntu). Now,
after about 6 hours of use my System Monitor shows 38% memory in use by
programs and 61% in use as cache. We also have Ubuntu 9.04 on a Netbook

I edited the gs_setpd.ps file according to your instructions and it
seems to have fixed the duplex printing problem I was having with Ubuntu
8.10 and a Samsung 3051ND Laser Printer. Only my file was in the
following path:
