0. (running apt-get update, dist-upgrade, etc to prepare)
1. deinstalling (via apt-get) gdm3
2. booting into recovery mode & initiating networking
3. running do-release-upgrade
4. restarting the system.
I don't think I can exactly 'r

boot drive file system, so that I have to fsck it using another computer.
But most of the time the boot drive is so mucked up, that fsck can't
fix it enough to boot.

Sorry, here is some more information on my system:
Ubuntu server 10.04 LTS x86_64 with 5 SATA disks configured as a
hardware raid (3ware 9550) and several encrypted volumes. A simple "dd
if=/dev/zero of=/some/volume/1gb.file bs=1G count=1 oflag=direct" causes
enough IO for kcryptd to use 100% load

As a workaround _for using 3dm2_ I replaced the outgoing mail server

I can reliably reproduce the problem by debugging a program with DDD, and
right-clicking on a variable in the data window.
The pointer get's stuck in the data window, and no gnome window manager
shortcuts work.
To get the machine back
I have been asked to test whether this issue still exists via some
automated email. I will do so once I see a link to the patch that has
supposedly solved this problem preferably with an explanation of why
that patch solves the problem.
