Public bug reported: I do use thunderbird, but I actually believe this is related to some lower level library. I also installed Chromium some time ago, which only stopped working this morning after I installed another linux image package (I don't know which one). This goes for a lot of network applications, including xchat-gnome for example (which says "Transport endpoint is already connected") when trying to connect to irc.freenode.net. xchat-gnome even gives this message after a reboot of the machine, in case you were thinking of a typical PEBKAC.

With the actual network I am on there is nothing wrong, since I tried it on another machine which is in the same LAN, where it does work.
