I was going to try the workaround posted by Guillaume Millet
(guimillet), but my machine successfully went into sleep mode.
Therefore, at least for me, the problem is intermittent, which suggests
that the particular process involved either does not start with the
machine or is not always in a state

if its the same process on my machine.

terminal's button gets small and tiny with no text in it at all. After

message boxes and a synchronous box at the same time, the synchronous
box lives for the duration of the broken box, at least on my machine.

When Liferea updates feeds or any other sort of sequential message the
last message remains in the status bar. This is especially difficult for
the feed updating messages because it gives the appearance that the last
feed is never done updating.
Just disabled Pidgin's notifications because they:
(a) stayed around forever
(b) their positioning occluded parts of my tiny netbook screen that I was using

Actually, this should resolve the problem during compile time by checking
whether the user is on audacious2 or audacious.
Not sure how this works in the packaging system, though and some check should
still be done before assuming audacious exists.

I have the same problem in Ubuntu 9.10 using my netbook.
Workaround is to Alt+Mouse to move the dialog box up and then stretch it
downwards.
Dialog auto-adjusts to screen height, but has no scoll bar to allow easy
access to the okay button.

categories as a means of simplifying the list, but, alas, Categories
cannot be set/removed from contacts

the Mic's volume is constantly adjusting itself downwards. No good
solutions, but a simple bash script will improve things. Similar ideas

A fresh install of Jaunty on the HP Mini 1000 1030NR had sound working
out of the box, with only one slight tweak.
It's necessary to go into the volume manager, enable the visibility of
the recording device "Import0 Mux", and turn up the volume its volume.
No other changes were necessary for me.
Actually, this is also true of the MSN protocol for me.

Issue can be resolved by rebooting with ethernet plugged in.
For my distribution/system the eth0 interface did not, initially, appear at all.
