nor LXDM. Also logging in on the terminal and "startx" failed. The
system had been running stably for years.

Ever since I have only used the 2.6.28-11-generic kernel.
The WLAN works with none of the newer kernels. If I accidentally boot
into one of them, I have no WLAN. So yes, the issue is still there, but
I don't care anymore.

I tried this with a fresh CD of Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6. The driver is
working considerably better with compiz and rotation than its Jaunty
counterpart.
However, the video issue is still there. I played the .ogg video from
example content in Totem on the rotated display, and the output was not
rotated
I can confirm that this bug is still there in Karmic Alpha 6. It has
never bothered me, but I've had it since Jaunty, too.

video output of most programs (Totem, MPlayer, VLC, Dragon) does not

I use the free ati driver on a rotated screen 1050x1400. When I adapt
the subpixel order to VRBG, text in Qt 4 applications like VirtualBox or
SMPlayer gets garbled and completely unreadable. I attach some
screenshots to demonstrate the problem.

I upgraded to Jaunty ant tested this on Jaunty now. Seems to work very
good. No garbling, no slowness. The performance when rotated is not
perfect, but good.

Luke, thanks for your solution, but that's beyond the point. The bug in
the virtualbox-ose-guest-utils package has to be fixed for those who use
virtualbox-ose.
