I can confirm this as being true.
The microphone jack on the laptop works properly, but the microphone
built into the bezel of the monitor does not show up in the Pulseaudio
sound preferences window.

I just compared my Lucid and Karmic installs and found that Lucid by
default does not have the "/apps/totem/volume" key.
Karmic does have the volume key, and in my case, it was set to 100. I'm
not sure if it defaulted to 100 or it was 100 because I set it through
totem or the totem plugin.
