On opening the attached file, gedit recognises it incorrectly as some
asian-specific encoding, even though the file is plain ASCII.

After the kernel upgrade from 3.13.0-91-generic to 3.13.0-92-generic,
the kernel modules I built for the MEDIATEK Corp. MT7630e 802 in my
laptop wont load anymore (hence no wifi), but they still do when using
the startup menu to boot 3.13.0-91-generic.
Problematic kernel vers
I can attest that this is (as of 29-06-2016) still an issue, and it
makes mathematical reference material such as http://dlmf.nist.gov/10.6
somewhat annoying to read. a fix would be highly appreciated

I am still working to get a setup with a mainline kernel, but that is
going to take some more time.
An update to 3.13.0-83 which i got through the standard update process
over the weekend has however fixed the problems i experienced.

3.13.0-83-generic image, some of the hardware in my laptop and attached
to it's usb ports stops functioning. In particular, the following stop

gcc crashes in simplif

GCC optimizer crashes on compiling attached code. expected it to finish
compilation without errors, as happens when not passing optimizer flags
to it.
compiled with gcc -o david2 david2.c -std=c99 -O3
also crashes on -O2, -O1, -O, -Os.
