Ok I had a break through today, similar to what you describe Tim - it
seems I can get the PS3 to connect to my WPA wifi network, but only by
removing the ethernet cable.
So I'm tempted to say this bug is closed now, and the problem we have
left is probably bug 309457.

I can thankfully say this issue is solved in Jaunty. The 2.6.28 kernel
includes the necessary changes in the ps3_gelic_wireless driver to
support the WEXT interface properly. So NetworkManager now shows the
wireless scan list. Closing.

Ok I think I see what you're asking for now.
You are using an x86 machine and you're looking for the -debug packages.
The only ones you can find relate to the ports kernels. It's likely the
official kernel sources output debug images in a different way now and
the ports kernels are lagging behind.
As of update 10 this is now fixed in Sun Java 6.

Changing video mode using the GUI isn't supported at the moment. Instead
PS3 users need to use the method described by DoctaSpawk.
Please also be aware of the Overscan/Black Borders tutorial which
resolves another display res issue.

The i386 and PowerPC Intrepid ports kernels also need to be updated to
use cubic:

Using the 'install_nosplash' option at the ps3-kboot prompt (because
usplash needs to be disabled see bug #285218), screen clear and within
seconds I'm dropped to "initramfs" busy box prompt and the install does
