So physically at the machine it was only possible to log into the
command prompt. There is no graphical interface available.
To top it off
Network manager was stopped! Not very good for network-manager to be
stopped right after an upgrade.

Upgrade from 16.04.5 to Ubuntu 18.04.1
Reboot the computer
The computer takes several minutes to reboot
The computer hangs on a purple screen not even showing the Ubuntu progress logo
Eventually the login screen shows up.
The hardware is
16-core processor

Steps to reproduce
Upgrade a Ubuntu 16.04.5 machine to 18.04.1
Install LightDM (gdm3 doesn't allow me to log into my system)
Install Unity (gnome3 won't start after one use)
Try to open a terminal to do anything.
CTRL+ALT+T
Nothing happens.

Switch to LightDM
Switch to Unity
(gnome wouldn't let me log in so I was looking for the log file)
Open Nautilus
in the search bar type ".log" (without the quotes)
All the log files in your home directory are shown
Click on Name column

This is still broken in Bionic with landscape-client
The proposed patch does not work.

Heres a 3-day graph from landscape showing that memory never reaches more that
57 used.
The gap of course being the downtime caused by this bug.

Every week on Sunday morning one of my Ubuntu 16.04 machines goes into a
non-usable state.
The log file shows the last entry in the log is
landscape-broke[1164]: segfault at 0 ip 0049469d sp

I found the conflict with the eGalax Touch Daemon driver.
I moved the driver startup from /etc/init.d/eGtouch.sh
to userspace as I don't need the touchscreen at login.
The strange thing is I have 17 machines with this configuration and only
one is exhibiting this behaviour with plymouthd
