Well, the installer just crashed on manual disk setup, after setting the
entire hard disk to "physical volume for encryption" and clicking in
there to actually configure the thing. Maybe it crashed because the disk
contained a LVM before which I dd'd away (100M/count=1), since
4.16.0-041600-generic works for me in contrast to all of the 4.15
kernels that are shipped with Ubuntu. It also improves WiFi card
handling of the 3x3ac QCA988x card tremendously, which often would
disappear back when standby still worked. Now it not only appeared right

As there is no option to "remove" a hard disk drive in dolphin or the
usual USB notifier, I unmounted all partitions and sent the device to
sleep (gnome-disks), which causes a spin-down of the drive itself. Then
one can remove the disk in a relatively safe manner.

Maybe kded4 has something to do with it. As described in bug #1007464,
brightness control was working as it should, but other things were
wrong. After killall kded4 and restarting it, some of these things were
fixed BUT brightness control via hardware keys is now broken again.
