This bug affects me on my desktop-pc, too.
Problem is, it's a total freeze, there is no log made at all, syslog and
kern.log both show nothing.
My system is fully updated (but not upgraded to 11.10).

No, it's not because I have the same problem despite I use burg as boot manager
(which works well).
Even with a working Grub 2 before it didn't show up.

I tried to get more infos on that bug and it seems it affects only MS-fonts
from the ttf-mscorefonts-installer like Arial, Times New Roman etc..

Strange, I have had the problem on every installation I made.
Has it something to do with the installation of the libreoffice via Synaptic?

Confirmed this bug.
The module pcspkr is set to off in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and I even
added a file "blacklist-pcspkr" with the content "blacklist pcspkr" into
/etc/modprobe.d.
