system. Now, Nvidia X Server Settings has a completely empty GUI. Videos do not
play in VLC. "llvmpipe" is now my graphics card. I'm probably us
Switching back to Wayland fixed the GUI (for #11 only; I can't speak for
the rest of the thread). To do this, I had to add nvidia-drm.modeset=1
to the assignment GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub, then
run sudo update-grub and reboot.

Maybe a special case because of hardware, but I encountered a semi-
transparent GUI today.
The main window is mostly transparent as well as each dock except for
titles and menus, which are correctly dark grey. I state "mostly"
transparent because everything visible through the transparent regions
I'm confirming that this issue does reappear when upgrading to Kubuntu
15.10 (wily) and the post in #10 resolves it.

I started my laptop, selected Unity, and logged in. I used the
Shutdown menu option in Unity and the laptop did power off.
It appears that this is a bug in KDE and not the kernel, so this bug
report should be closed.

I've narrowed down the problem a bit more, and I don't think it's a
kernel bug but maybe something with KDE or X Windows...
The system will shutdown and then power off when I do the following:
Power on the laptop
CNTRL-ALT-F1 to bring up a console
Logged in normally
Issued the command - "sudo shut
I installed mainline kernel linux-
image-3.0.6-030006-generic_3.0.6-030006.201110050043_i386.deb (mapped
from kernel 3.0.0-13.21) and it didn't fix the bug. The system won't
power down.
