I have a clue : it seems to be related to the nVidia proprietary
drivers. I could reproduce the problem on an openSuSE fresh install :
sound works out of the box, is lost after install of the drivers and
comes back after uninstalling it ...

Problem is partially solved after daily update. Boot is now able to
complete, but my graphic card is not used properly and restricted
drivers manager doesn't detect it (was detected properly before partial
upgrade).
Seems problem is less critical now, as I can still use nv is I want to
..

Same problem here ... I removed "quiet splash" from boot parameters, it
seems to hang just after loading NVidia proprietary driver.
Do the other person impacted also use proprietary driver ?

Had to blacklist rt61pci driver and use CVS legacy rt61 driver from
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com
So far, it passed the torture test : transfer of huge files on the
network (samba) in 54Mbps mode, while using bittorrent and playing
online flash games ...
In the same conditions with rt61pci drive
Seems that it's a bug that has already been corrected upstream, but the
correction won't be available in 2.6.24 ...
Maybe that for the release for Hardy it might prove useful to blacklist
these modules and to use legacy driver ... I'll try this later this day
and report here ...

Happens also with my Ralink based WiFi PCI card (see lspci -vv output)
Happens really fast when I set transfer rate to 54Mbps (sudo iwconfig
wlan0 rate 54M)
Happens more often when transferring on a Samba share.
Will try to put as many documentation as possible. Do not hesitate to

Indeed I arrived at a BusyBox screen (at first I wasn't patient enough
to get it). I took pictures (sorry for quality) of the crash (Crash 1/3
to 3/3), Tried the modprobe command, but it didn't work (you have a

As the Gutsy LiveCD crashed on boot, I installed 7.04 and then upgraded
immediately.
Feisty did run flawlessly, but Gutsy didn't boot.

I don't know when the fix has been commited, but in Gutsy, the same
thing happens ... I had to use Cesare's tip to make it work ...
Maybe the bug is in the ATI driver ...

When at the menu, press F6 -> the boot options are shown
