would you mind help pin-pointing the solution? I can confirm that the
BIOS update on its own DOES NOT solve the problem (neither kernel
3.6.6-030606-generic nor 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu above).
There must be something else besides just the BIOS upgrade and the
reset pin; did you do any
Doesn't work for me on either Ubuntu 12.10 nor kubuntu 12.10.
Upgrading to the latest BIOS did not solve the problem either.

For installing Windows 7 on a USB drive and then booting from it. In
theory that should work.

For many users (including me) BIOS update appears as if it solves the
problem, but the bug 'comes back' a few days later. It's as if one of
the ACPI functions (the suspend maybe?) causes the BIOS to misbehave
again.

Thanks Bryan and Marcin for the clarification. I followed the
instructions (didn't fry the MB this time) but the problem is still
there. 3.5.0rc6 from the Ubuntu ppa.

@Bryan and @Marcin: Did you put the pin in when the computer was plugged
in? Or without AC power? And for how long, just a quick click or longer?
The reason I'm asking, is when I tried it the Motherboard got fried and
I had to go to Samsung for replacement. Before anyone else makes the
same mistak
I am having the same problem described above, almost always with chromium.
Precise 12.04, unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.
Extremely annoying and a productivity killer.
