Nevermind that, I found it. For future reference: You have to install
the latest build from the Inkscape Trunk PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/trunk). Be careful though,
as these are bleeding edge releases.
I hope this fix will arrive in the stable builds soon.

Renaming the ~./fonts directory before starting inkscape dramatically

Activating "Force full screen redraw (buffer swap) on repaint" caused a
significant increase in CPU load with regular usage on my system. That's
why I had to go back to deactivating the automatic screen switch
entirely.

it is not the Window Selector (the one that presents them in a menu) but the
Window List applet which creates buttons along the panel.

rows or columns without affecting them in any other way. As it is, I
can't use it, because I would miss the cube of compiz, Expo displays
them vertically (thus not taking advantage of my wide-screen) and to
