And after a fresh restart, I now also have the Context-menu item for
sparkleshare. (and have had one sparkleshare "fatal unhandled
exception"). So it seems to be working for me now.

I had that behaviour when using the 0.8-series version in the repo's.
The notification was was there, but there was no icon, so only when I directly
clicked on it would it appear.
I uninstalled that, downloaded the 0.9-series from backports and did a "dpkg
-i" on the .deb file
after logging out

I have Maverick i386 beta (updated today, and the micro dongle listed below
works) but with my Lucid x86_64 also updated today, I get the same "timed out"
