I have Maverick i386 beta (updated today, and the micro dongle listed below 
works) but with my Lucid x86_64 also updated today, I get the same "timed out" 
error as listed by all above.
I have run 'apport-collect -p linux 460743'

Maverick beta is on Acer Aspire One A110 Atom N270, 1.5 Gig RAM, 8 Gig SSD
Lucid is on Dell Vostro 1500 Centrino Core 2 Duo T7500, 4 Gig RAM, 120 Gig HDD.
