create the USB image, Im adding cdrom-detect/try-usb=true and it doesn't
complain about not finding the cdrom, but when it starts to copy if says
there was a problem reading the cdrom and that it failed to copy a file.

didn't...with Ubuntu 9.10. I did a fresh install of 10.04 and have
exactly the same issue. Different CPU, different wireless adapter etc.
Obviously, this is a kernel issue and not hardware specific.

Booting up drops me to consle view, says unsupported Thinkpad, then

Running 9.04 amd64 which was upgraded from 8.10 amd64. It worked fine
in 8.10 and now does not in 9.04.
I have all the gstreamer plugins installed (good,bad,ugly,gnolin etc)
and libdvdcss, and previously I could drag an ISO to the totem window
for it to play.
I have an Acer Aspire 5021 and did a HOWTO for Dapper Drake years ago
for getting the wireless working with acer_acpi 0.3 and bcm43xx.
I have been using this old laptop as a server running CentOS for the
last few years and just reinstalled it with Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop 64-bit.

issue, but I'm telling you that uninstalling the Nvidia driver, and using

I have exactly the same problem on a newly installed Debian Etch system
that was fully encrypted (except /boot) using the guided partitioner. I
have an external WD MyBook 320GB 1394a disk that was unencrypted.
Performance was fine to the 1394a disk (both read/write speeds as well
as LAN transfer r

Actually, i'm happy with the positive confirmations so far for i386. I
am forced to use nvidia glx driver for time being so this no longer
directly affects me but I am assuming that the fix Timo released will
