Update: I got the same issue on Ubuntu 20.04.2. Looks like this isn't a
kernel issue after all. Thanks a ton for the pointer Daniel, I'll return

After validating that I didn't seem to get issues with 20.04.2 I fully
replaced 20.04.3 with the previous version.
I can edit the grub config, but would that impact a live disk? If yes, I
can try editing grub, loading into the .2 version on a live disk, and
play around until I see an issue.

Also happens on my Lenovo SL300 with an nVidia 9300M. The way it happens
for me, though, is that the screen starts at a normal brightness when it
boots and stays that way through GRUB, but becomes dark early in the
linux boot process, specifically when it says "loading hardware
drivers". I've tried
It's worth noting my SL300 has an Nvidia Geforce 9300M, and I'm using
the Nvidia driver, as opposed to Piotr, who seems to have an Intel GPU.
This might account for why the brightness applet works for me.

I have the same problem with the Fn brightness keys on my Lenovo SL300.
The brightness applet, however, adjusts the brightness just fine, even
though it can't actually get the current brightness.

The new modules are working great on my SL300. For those who don't have
it working, I suggest making sure that your keyboard shortcuts for
volume up, volume down and volume mute are set to XF86AudioRaiseVolume,
XF86AudioLowerVolume and XF86AudioMute respectively.

trouble getting Banshee to recognize it in Jaunty alpha 6. I've created
an .is_audio_player file, and it shows up in Rhythmbox without a
problem, but there's nothing in Banshee.
Unsurprisingly, the problem with the hotkeys also occur on my SL300,
which is running Jaunty Alpha 6. I don't even get a response for them
from xev.

Well I have the exact same motherboard and harddisk except a Samsund DVD
writer and it works fine. I burned a DVD+RW at 4x speed. Anyways I will
