- move the mouse from the icon to the close window symbol "x" of the open

I just tried this again and in fact you do not have to drag and drop feeds
while the new Google Reader subscription is importing.
You can first close the application and then create a new folder outside of the
Google Reader entry and drag and drop feeds from Google Reader into your new
folder.
I reproduced this bug:

>From menu "Subscription" -> "New Source" -> "Google Reader"
During the import I created folders in the "Example Feeds" folder and
dragged and dropped feeds from the "Google Reader" folder to these new
folders.

It is strange that .gtk-bookmarks is not in your home folder and you are still
seeing Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. in the "Places" menu.
The ~/.gtk-bookmarks file actually stores the nautilus bookmarks, which show up
in the "Places" menu.
One thing that you might want to try is:

not saved after program restart.
In my case the original entry was "totem --enqueue" and I could not via the
preferences menu delete the "--enqueue" flag so that it would not show up after
a program restart.

I am just curious, are you running the Ubuntu Netbook Edition? Here by
default all windows are maximized. There is no way to "unmaximize"
windows. You can select the edition in GDM before you login.

These are the things you can please check:
In your homefolder in the file .gtk-bookmarks is a list of the entries of the
"Places" folder. They should be names something like:
file:///home/y
and you might want to try using the sun jdk (package: sun-java6-jdk)

UPDATE to my last comment: I took another look at the problem (Lucid,
Seahorse 2.30 on VBox) and it turns out that the dialog is not hanging.
On my machine it takes between 5-20mins for the key to be generated the
dialog then closes properly. The "cancel" button on the dialog does not
