GUI (Compiz+CairoDock) freeze w
This bug also affects me. It doesn't need to be started from the dock;
starting it from Applications menu, terminal or Gnome-Do also makes the
system freeze. It's not possible to interact with the dock or the
desktop, only move the mouse or kill X server with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.

I had the same problem some minutes ago, although only the shutdown icon
disappeared. I ran the command 'unity --reset' and brought it back; do I
need to keep the terminal open?
Also, even after installation, I can't find Compiz Manager anywhere.
Neither System Settings, nor the Dash when typing '
Today I found a way to solve it. Just had to change proxy configurations
from "GNOME" to "environment".

I started having the same problem under Ubuntu 11.04 64 bits. I have
Windows 7 on dual-boot and installed Pidgin on it too. Both MSN and
Gtalk work perfectly there, but only Gtalk works on Ubuntu.
This problem started yesterday (06-16-2011); Pidgin used to work with no
trouble until then.
