I had the same problem some minutes ago, although only the shutdown icon disappeared. I ran the command 'unity --reset' and brought it back; do I need to keep the terminal open?
Also, even after installation, I can't find Compiz Manager anywhere. Neither System Settings, nor the Dash when typing 'ccsm'. What can I do? I'm testing from a Live USB. Don't know if it matters...
