OK, more research. This looks to be a mismatch between what logind
expects lightdm to do and what we actually do.
Mir sessions started by lightdm all use the same VT number (they all
live on the VT owned by unity-system-compositor.
But logind does not allow two user sessions to be on the same VT
Some research -- this is because XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is empty for the second
user... Not sure why yet.
You can see the message "QStandardPaths: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not set,
defaulting to '/tmp/runtime-testuser'" in the log above.
The default for the mir socket that unity8 creates is
$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/mir

unity8-session to use mir-libs until that's updated.

Didier and I settled on a version of desktop-launch that tries to use
mir-libs first, falling back to ubuntu-app-platform (while the libs are
in there), and if not, then falling back to an internal copy of the
libraries.
That should help the transition and doesn't encode a requirement on mir-
libs
- Please subscribe ~ubuntu-sdk-bugs to package bugs.
- qml-module-ubuntu-test, qtdeclarative5-dev-tools, and xvfb should be
added to the Build-Depends or else the test suite doesn't get run.
- Not necessarily a blocker, but the binary package name should be qml-
module-ubuntu-components-extras.
Didier, I mostly agree with you, but you are missing the context and
meetings that led to this approach. I'm just the messenger here, and
anyone please correct me if I mess something up.
- The Mir team is actively working on a stable ABI 1.0 release. That's
coming in short term (but will involve
op-session (Ubuntu)

Unity8 snap can't load the testability lib
This is not the original issue, but yesterday I switched the unity8 snap
to use a different, more standard path (/run/user/xxx/mir_socket) for
the socket.
So if testing against the u8 snap, please re-create your app snaps to
pull down the latest version of the desktop-launch script which will
poin
So in both the phone and the snap, the libraries get loaded twice. The
first registration succeeds and the second fails.
But on the phone introspection works and with the snap, it doesn't. But
we don't have clues as to why yet... :(
