I used a spare HDD on the same laptop and setup 16.04 LTS per Ubuntu Disk
Partitioning recommendations as follows: Swap, /, and Home in that order. Grub

Fresh install of 16.04 on hardware that ran 14.04 faultlessly. 14.04 has
sound, 16.04 not. I can find no problem in the drivers. In the sound
settings, the only output device shown is Digital Output (S/PDIF). There

I just investigated the same bug. "less" loses input lines because it
does not count output lines correctly. The problem is that it assumes
that east asian wide characters have width 1, but in reality, e.g. on
xterm, these characters take 2 positions. In other words, the routine
pwidth() in less-48
After searching more, this has been backported upstream to the 1.0.2
stable series. Thus at most we could pick up and test

I can confirm this bug as well. It's horrible noise, you can't hear the other
call participant at all. This needs to be fixed ASAP.
