I reset motorola surfboard sbg6580 wireless modem/router, after 20
seconds modem/router rebooted (I have it setup to search for updates
upon login), system was unable to retrieve updates (I backed up

I just ran into this as well. Interestingly the only package I can find
that has the issue is systemd. It looks like systemd was linked with
gold and nothing else I have installed is.
This issues was fixed in upstream bin-utils by the following change:

As it seems something is going wrong with rendering in RevengeOfTheTitans and
other apps.
I also noticed the problem with WorldOfGoo for example.
The flickering always happens not only in fullscreen mode.

So did some investigation into this and why the error message is
printing. It seems like it shouldn't be. Then I realized I was looking
at the version of libttng-ust in Xenial and not the one in Vivid. This
is fixed in Xenial with ust 2.7 in that it'll only print the errors if
UST debugging is turn
