This is true... but then you never know, you will always get people that
add them all just because they can, and then you have a space issue, and
people start to complain they have to scroll to see this, and that, and we
then end up having to reconsider the feature ;)

I have serveral e-mail accounts (aliases) using the same inbox, so I have
to disagree. The possibility might come in handy from time to time, so I
wouldn't consider it a complete waste of space. Still, such a feature must
be configurable since not everyone would have use for it.

Options >> Display Preferences >> Show recipient name if the message is from your
default identity
You could possibly turn on threading also, as it would help keep the messages together.
