Is there a way to switch the encoding to something like UTF-8 so it will

Courier-IMAP does not have this restriction, for example. It interacts
with the filesystem in a different way (using the Maildir format).

he SquirrelMail config - there are
people that use it quite successfully. If 1.2.10 is being too much of a
pain, you can try 1.4.0 RC2, and see if that helps. That said, I really
think the finger should be pointed at gettext, which fails silently if
there is a problem, leaving only what you see - i.

I'm hoping that someone on the list has run into this problem before. The

I don't think that's exactly correct. It sounds more like a restriction of
SM and Exchange (most likely dedpendent on how the Exchange server is set
up with regard to login names and email addresses, etc.).
SM on Win32 to a non-Exchange IMAP server would not be subject to this
res
erences. Their version of conf.pl is not up to date
with the version in 1.4.0 RC1 or 1.3.x.
I believe XSS patches were applied throughout the SquirrelMail source, so
the hole the patch was targetted to fix should already be addressed.
