I have noticed several comments lately about people being unable to search the message lists via SourceForge.

I would recommend (and will place a note on the SquirrelMail website) as an alternative, that you subscribe via your favorite newsgroup reader (OutlookExpress, MozillaMail, etc. for those that prefer GUI's work fine) to the following newsgroups:

news server: news.gmane.org

groups: gmane.mail.squirrelmail.devel -- for devel list
gmane.mail.squirrelmail.plugins -- for plugin list
gmane.mail.squirrelmail.users -- for users list

These newsgroups can be browsed without being a member of the list, and as with all newsgroups, you can perform searches based on the subject line.

NOTE: It is increasingly important, due to the problems people have searching the lists, that you include a valid and informative subject line! We have quite a few messages posted with the most unhelpful (no subject) or regurgitated digest subject. This makes threading and other things fall to pieces.

I have found it useful to reply to the message from the newsgroup (changing the address to that of the appropriate mailing list). This works wonderfully, and preserves the right threading information.

Remember, you must be a member of the list to send mail, however, you can turn off all mail delivery should you prefer to watch the list via the newsgroups.

Hope this helps.
