I am seeing the same problem. One thing I noticed is after making the
changes, if I refresh the entire site (hit browser refresh) and not just
the frame. Then the setting stick.

Not sure if there is a way. However to add to your request. A special
folder called SPAM would be handy and also allow for a "purge" button on
that folder.

I use SM and mailman. However not sure how your problem is related to
mailman. Mailman should not be setup any differently because you are
using SM. It is completely independent.
Now I now if you reply or forward a message via the message list in SM and
not from within the email itself SM will

This is probably something that you are going to want to handle on the
server side. Most likely using a global procmail filter. If you are
using exim you can use exims
