When i type startx in a text mode i get this error message:

It looks to me as though you're consistently logging in as root, doing an
"su" to another

u see maybe due to the fact that i copied the file into winndows after
mounting windows in linux.

XFree has been updated at least twice since RHL 5.2 was released, so
anybody keeping up with the errata should now be at 3.3.5. So, the best
guess really is
Its a Video Card, check www.3dfx.com, im sure they have a list of distributors.

Firstly your Video Card is Not supported with the version of XFree86 that comes
with RH 5.2 - You should checkout www.xfree86.org

long time ago. It might work in 6.2 not sure, Im us

I have been using RH5.0 with XFree86 for about 4 months now without too
many problems once I got everything configured properly. I am running on
a stand alone machine.
Last night X Windows stalled after I initiated "startx" the screen
remained with a hatched background and the cursor as an X.
