Thanks, Gene. That cleared it up... not easily, though.
Here's what I did (in case anyone else comes across the same problem):
I had ncurses3-1.9.9e-5.i386.rpm and ncftp-2.4.3-1.i386.rpm
Have you upgraded to the latest ncurses rpm? That cleared up my problems
with ncftp.
