Thanks, Gene. That cleared it up... not easily, though.
Here's what I did (in case anyone else comes across the same problem):
I had ncurses3-1.9.9e-5.i386.rpm and ncftp-2.4.3-1.i386.rpm installed
(RedHat 5.0 default ... straight off the CD). For that version of
ncftp, that version of ncurses seems to be the latest. However, a newer
version of ncftp is available: ncftp-2.4.3-3.i386.rpm. This version
requires ncurses-4.2-6.i386.rpm, though, and will not work without it.
So, I tried to install ncurses-4.2-6.i386.rpm. The only way I could get
ncurses-4.2-6.i386.rpm to go on the system, though, was to force the
install. After that, ncftp-2.4.3-3.i386.rpm installed okay.
It is no longer higgledy-piggledy, and looks quite nice (for a
text-based interface). However, I have yet to see if the forced install
will have any effect on the other programs that were listed as
conflicts...
Regards,
David Taylor.
