After some digging into /etc/rc, I found that the rc system expects the subsystems which start up and need to be stopped (the ones which will have K??* files linked to them) to touch a file in /var/lock/subsys. I changed my /etc/rc.d/init.d/endurance script to touch that file on startup and remov
