Hi all,
I am using a Redhat v9 box as an access concentrator for PPPoE. People
can connect to the Redhat v9 box without any problems, however the link
between them and the access concentrator runs at about 40% packet loss.
The underlying network is a wireless ethernet with 0% packet loss, but

Hi,
I have a PPPoE (ADSL) connection on my Red Hat 8.0
linux machine. It brings up PPP0, but when trying to
monitor this with "pppstats -c99 ppp0" it doesn't
produce the correct bandwidth usage.
So I'm wondering, how do I total my usage of the IP
traffic I use via this PPPoE
Hello,
Can RedHat 9 or 10 install via a PPPoE DSL connection, or do I have to
download the ISO's and install from CD and configure PPPoE after the system
is installed?

I've got everything up & running, but there seems to be a small

Hi!
I use: RedHat 8.0 + rp-pppoe 3.4 (installed by RH 8.0)
eth0 is my local network (static ip 192.168.200.254)
eth1 is the nic connect to be adsl-modem.
I´ve got some routing problem because:
I can ping my ISP with cmd: ping 192.178.121.78 -I ppp0 !!!
but, the command:
ping 192.178.121.78
You can use rp-pppoe
(http://www.roaringpenguin.com/pppoe/). It works fine
for me and it's easy to configure.

You can pass the local IP address to pppd on
That is controlled by you ISP , not you. You would have to set something

Nonsense, or you are not meaning what it sounds like :) I guess you
It's typically not the case that IP addresses are statically assigned for
ADSL links, but it's not impossible. The PPPoE client still uses the ppp
daemon for PPP stuff. There is an option for pppd to specify the local
and/or remote IP address, and then the ppp daemon will not accept a

No...in the case of adsl and a PPPOE connection, the static IP is not
within your control. It will be assigned to you every time you reinstate
your connection, and the PPPOE client will assign the IP address to teh
PPP interface.

I believe that you can't set a static IP if using any sort of PPP
implementation, PPPOE included. The PPPOE client sets the IP address for
the PPP interface, which is the actual interface used on your connection
to the net.
