Compiling mrtg with gcc

I'm trying to compile mrtg on my RH 6.2 machine. Here's what I get when I compile mrtg-2.8.11-2.src.rpm from the Powertools 6.2: checking for gcc... gcc checking whether the C compiler (gcc -O2 -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 ) works... yes checking whether the C compiler (gcc -O2 -march=i386 -mcpu=i686
